who we are
We are a student-led employability group aimed at developing, enhancing, and promoting student awareness of graduate careers and internship opportunities. We put on weekly talks from employers relevant to the fields of Geography and Environmental Science, engage with fellow students, and liaise with the employability officer and the careers service.
We hold regular meetings to report on feedback and ideas, to schedule new employer and alumni talks, gather research on how to improve the employability service, and make events such as the careers fairs more accessible to students through our various social media platforms.

Alex
Hi, I’m Alex, a second year BA Geography student who is seeking to offer a helping held alongside my colleagues in order to fulfil the greatest university experience through a wealth of future employability options. I am involved in the events team, a rewarding and engaging element in which directly connects you to the employer. I became an ambassador simply to help students become exposed to the vast range of job opportunities out there. As someone who has directly benefited from the scheme, I felt as if it was the perfect opportunity to join this community and help deliver a service in which I am personally most grateful for.
Alice
I am a first year BA Geography student and am currently part of the communications team. I became an employability ambassador to develop skills that will aid me in my future career, such as teamwork, organisation and problem solving. I joined the communications team to gain an understanding of how the process of promoting events works. Online platforms are significant in many sectors so experience here is vital. I also want to understand the opportunities available with a geography degree.
Anna
I study BSc Geography. I became an employability ambassador because I want to give back to the Geography department by helping to organise employability events that are both helpful and interesting for current students. I also want to help widen people’s perspectives on what career options there are available to geographers, and research these for myself too. I am a part of the organisation team, whereby I help to plan and organise meeting times and event days. I am also part of the communications team, helping with promoting the events that are running. Lastly, I am part of the education team, looking at ways to improve module guides with regards to employability.
Bethany
I’m an Environmental Science student that’s on the research team. I joined the employability team as I thought it would be a great opportunity to meet new people and be a part of something at University! It gives an insight into so many careers that may not have been considered before - it definitely broadens your horizons to the number of opportunities available out there!
Callum
I study BSc geography and I am an employability ambassador. I decided to become an ambassador because it seemed like a good opportunity to help improve my skills and the way employability is conveyed within the school. I am part of the education sub team which focuses on trying to get people engaged in employability skills from modules and lectures.
Charlie
I'm a first-year student studying BA Geography and I'm also a part of the strategic team. I became an employability ambassador to develop my organisation and communication skills, but above all, I wanted to learn about the range of career paths available for geography students. I feel that planning for the future is vital when at university, so I wanted to part of a team that promotes forward-thinking and post-graduation opportunities.
Charlotte B
I study geography BA
I became an employability ambassador to increase my own personal knowledge of potential future careers and opportunities. Additionally, to spread awareness to fellow students of the importance of thinking about potential future opportunities and how they can give you an advantage.
I am part of the education sub team who aim to increase employability awareness and participation into modules and the curriculum.
Charlotte T
I am a first year BSc Environmental Science student interested in conservation and preservation of environmentally beneficial and beautiful sites all over the planet, in particular forests and woodland ecosystems. I am on the events team of the employability ambassador scheme as I enjoy taking part in the structure and organisation of events, from contacting potential speakers to making sure the day runs smoothly.
Chloe
I am the Lead Geography Employability Student Ambassador and I study BA Geography. I became an employability ambassador as I wanted to explore the different sectors geography could lead me into. I also wanted to have direct contact with employers to help my personal network and to gain industry insight into what employers want. I am on the Organisation and Strategic planning teams helping to keep the group running smoothly.
Finn
I am a BSc Geography student, and I am on the Research sub-team. I joined the Ambassadors scheme to take a more active role in shaping my degree and to develop useful skills. I also believe that connecting students with opportunities for experience, work and information is highly important in helping students find a career that’s right for them, and this is something the Ambassador scheme actively promotes.
Fiona
BA Geography, Research Team
I became an employability ambassador as I was keen to get more involved in Geography at the university, and this allows involvement in the behind the scenes planning and running of many successful geography related events. I also believe that being an ambassador provides useful skills that will prove helpful in the future.
George
Hi, I’m George! I’m in my second year, currently studying BA Geography. I am working in the communications sub-team to get the word out to you about all the exciting events we have lined up, and how you can prepare yourself for getting a job once you’ve finished studying. I’d love to learn more about the world of work for graduates outside of academic study, and to pass this knowledge onto other students who’re wondering what they’re going to do with their future
Heather
I currently study Bsc Geography and becoming an ambassador means I am able to help facilitate information from companies and organisations to fellow students about their future prospects, during their degree programmes and following graduation. As part of the events team, it enables me to assist in tailoring events to any student requests for employability opportunities, particularly for their fields of interest within Geography and Environmental Science.
Jordi
I am a first year BSc Environmental Science student passionate about wildlife conservation and saving beautiful, iconic but endangered wild species in their natural habitats across the globe. I am on the Strategic Planning team of the Employability Ambassador scheme as I enjoy planning and ensuring that both Geography and Environmental Science students are represented through the scheme. I became an Employability Ambassador to boost my CV and employability skills and because I believe it is extremely important to have the opportunities to learn about the possible industries and schemes that are available after graduation.
Keira
BA Geography, Research Team.
I became an Employability Ambassador because every student worries about getting a job after University, yet student engagement can be an issue despite the support given by the University, and the events the Employability team organises; so being part of this team is important to me to help encourage students to become more involved and excited about their future.
Leo
I’m Leo, a third year BA Geographer and (self-proclaimed) head of the events team, as well as a member of the research team. Over the last few years, I’ve been asked a few too many times by my friends and family what I’ll be able to do with my ‘colouring in’ degree, and I realised that clearly most aren’t aware the doors a degree in Geography or Environmental Science can open. Unfortunately, many of my peers underestimate the value of their course too, so as an ambassador, I’m hoping to connect other Geographers and Environmental Scientists to the countless opportunities out there, showing just how diverse and employable they are as degrees.
Maddie
An environmental science student who is part of the research team. I joined the employability team because it is a scheme that creates so many opportunities for everyone in the school of geography. It also allows for insight into potential career paths which is hugely beneficial for students, and it looks really good on a CV!
Matt
Hi, I’m Matt. I’m a first year BSc Geography student, and part of the organisation team. I became an employability ambassador because it helps me be proactive about connecting my academic studies to my future.
Megan
I am on the Events team, and in my first year of Environmental Science, specifically I am on the Environmental Change pathway.
I wanted to become an Employability Ambassador to help other driven students to get more info about future career options, get face-time with industry professionals and understand how they can boost their employability and post-uni success.
In my spare time I’m a keen environmentalist, rock climber, holiday planner and (partially successful) baker.
Naomie
My name is Naomie. I’m an International student studying (Bsc) Environmental Sciences and I’m on the communications team of the employability ambassador programme. I became a student employability ambassador because of all the opportunities the programme has to offer such as the opportunity to work with a team and organizing or hosting various interesting events. I also look after this website with Tom
Siobhan
My name is Siobhan and I'm currently in my third year, studying BA Geography. I became an employability ambassador because I wanted the opportunity to help organise the types of events we hold as I found there was a lack of non-profit company events. I am particularly interested in the charitable sector and wanted to express my interests within the ambassador scheme. I joined the Events team and Strategic Planning, both of which have helped in organising a new employability event for charities!
Sophie
I am a second year Geography BA student who is involved in the organisation team. I became an ambassador to be able to contribute to the students’ exposure to different careers and apprenticeships, which are ultimately the aim of most students once they graduate. Being an ambassador allows you to organise and suggest new career events which is a great way to illustrate employable skills when applying for jobs.
Tasha
2nd Year BA Geography
Research Team
I became an employability ambassador to find out about careers, internships and graduate opportunities and help spread the word to my peers. As an ambassador I am able to find out what my fellow students want to know about employability and try to ensure there are suitable events to cover this.
Tom
I’m Tom, a first-year mature student here at the University of Southampton, studying a BSc in Environmental Science. I became an Employability Ambassador because I wanted to help fellow students (and myself!) gain an insight into possible graduate careers, and what it takes to succeed in them. I’m on the communications sub-team, promoting and helping to organise our events, which showcase prospective employers to fellow students. I, along with Naomie, also help maintain this website.
Victoria
I’m Victoria and I am currently a first year BSc Geography student and part of the events team. Being an employability ambassador has given me the opportunity to emphasise the importance of thinking about your career path from the outset of your degree programme. As part of the events team, it has allowed me to translate my own interests and others I have talked to into events for the rest of the school of geography and environmental science to give fellow students inspiration into potential career prospects.
